The Napoleonic Wars
The Napoleonic Wars (1799—1815) were the campaigns in which revolutionary France under Napoleon first defeated every European monarchy, then fell to a coalition of seven powers. Between 18 Brumaire 1799 and Waterloo on 18 June 1815, Europe lived through the Civil Code, the Continental Blockade, the Russian campaign of 1812, the Battle of the Nations at Leipzig, and Napoleon's two abdications. The wars destroyed the Holy Roman Empire, gave Europe its modern legal codes, and created a Napoleonic cult that endured for centuries.
